Californian’s voted Tuesday to pass Proposition 8, which will ban same-sex marriages in the state and call in to question the legitimacy of nearly 16,000 gay and lesbian marriages. The proposition was passed by just over 52 percent.

Proposition K, which called for the decriminalization of prostitution in San Francisco, and for the full enforcement of laws against assault or rape in cases involving sex workers, was defeated by more than 57 percent of voters.
